I have a couple of old Nishiki Aliens with square tubing.

That was a feature on the Exage (6 speed) and Mountain LX (7 speed). IIRC it was only around for a year or two 1988 & 1989.

Your frame is made for a 1" steerer. The 1" number refers to the OD of the steerer tube. Headsets (and tires, and bottom brackets, and every other part that has ever changing standards) can get confusing. When I get lost I find that Park Tool has a lot of useful info on their website. The...

That is wild, I have a 1990 SM800 that has a 1' steerer. Do you have the serial number handy?

I think it is a 1990, it was the only year with round chainstays and cantilevered dropouts. Probably a late 1990 (August +/-) with the decal on the downtube or it could be a euro spec thing. I would love to see the serial number on it.

The same bike has been advertised in my area for $300. It has been sitting for months.

Not sure about the tire clearance but older Cannondales used 27.2mm seatposts.

There are kit to convert from Headshok forks to conventional forks, which is what is fitted to your bike. Post a picture of the serial number, that will help fill in the details.

Considering the very good condition and if someone needed a large frame: $150-200. The bike market is very weak for sellers right now.
