    1996 R600

I like the colors. I don’t know much about the RX100 gruppo. If it is a 56cm frame I wouldn’t mind tinkering with this one for my wife. But looking at the head tube it might be much smaller. Not sure. It’s listed for $150 and is a 25 day old ad, so probably would take less. 96 R600

    Is this OCD?

Of course it is. But I just can’t get a saddle straight. Asymmetric eye sockets. Or something. I can’t drill a straight hole either. Roll your eyes. Laugh out loud. It’s ok. My only other option that I have resorted to (more than once) is I have to ask my wife “is my seat straight?” :)

I hate it when that happens…

Finding a previously installed Helicoil the hard way. How about you?

    MT. Tandem

Normally I wouldn’t give a tandem much thought while looking at classifieds. Because they’re usually very highly priced. This one isn’t terrible at $400. And I believe it’s big enough at 22” for the ”stoker”. Very nice shape for a 1995. I like the color. Pretty cool huh? MT1000

    Full Campy

Local CL ad. $750 obo. Looks like a neat build. Needs tlc. And shorter cable housings. I’m recalling some special model that did come with Campagnolo. I could be confused. It happens after looking at thousands of bike ads for the last couple of years. (Edit: found online a 89 SR900 and this...

    Broken cable guide

While troubleshooting a binding rear brake on my BL I put too much stress on a cable guide and it broke. They must get brittle with age as I don’t think I had a lot of force on the plastic guide. Any suggestions for a fix would be greatly appreciated.

    Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all at Vintage Cannondale! Hopefully you’ve been good so Santa brings you what you’ve been wishing for.

    RD issue or frame flex?

I’m unable to determine a cause for my chain attempting to change gears on the rear cogs when starting from a dead stop. This is on my 2001 R400; triple front, 8 speed rear. It only happens when stopped at a stop sign on a slight incline. It is where I’ve got a busy street to cross that...

    1997 H500

Another great deal local to me is this hybrid. It’s only $95 and it is in the biggest size offered for 1997. The brake set doesn’t seem to match the catalog. No surprise there. Aside from the obvious; ride it. What can one do to a hybrid? What are they good at? Drop bars? Gravel bike?

    Sobe promotional

I’ve been eyeballing a Sobe promotional mtb on ebay. The seller says it’s a 2000 year model. I recall seeing pictures somewhere, but no information. In one of the pictures I can see a SRAM rear derailleur. I’m guessing the M400 is the base for the build. Ebay Sobe

    New rubber

Thought I’d work on Mrs.Idaho’s bike today. I serviced the hubs and installed a set of Continental Town&Country tires. And installed a rear rack. I need to work on leveling it a bit. Funny it looked level while the bike was in the stand. It’s not the correct size (I think). Also I didn’t have...

    1995 Killer V500

I really like this gem that came up for sale on my local craigslist. The original owner is asking $200. I’d be on my way tomorrow to pick it up, but it is only a 17” frame. I see in the catslog it was offered in bigger sizes of 19” and 21”. Being 6’2” I’m guessing a 21” would be my more size. I...

    Brake pad upgrades

Vintage bikes are great. Vintage bike brake pads not so much. On one of my rides I have a descent at up to 35 mph (56kph). I got to thinking one day that just maybe 20+ year old brake pads aren’t a good idea. I upgraded my R500 with Kool Stop pads. I’ve got another set on the way for my R400...

    Mavic Ksyrium wheels

I’ve been thinking about getting a set. I believe I’ve read the SL was above the Elite in the hierarchy. Are there different generations? Were there bad years? Looking at pictures it looks like a special nipple wrench would be needed. I don’t know the weight of my current wheels so I don’t...

    Stage race with your Cannondale

Has anyone done racing with a Cannondale? The idea has crossed my mind. I know very little. I’ve learned about categories, ie. Cat 1,2,3,4,5. Also the general idea that the lowest elapsed time of the combined stages wins. There is an event 10 weeks away that is about 2 hours from my place of...

    1986 SR400

Local craigslist ad. At least that is what I came up from the posted serial number (63121885156) and pictures. “Only” $135. It would fit me too. Appears to have the original components. Last week I would’ve picked it up. This week not so much.

Dia-Compe XCT brake pad part number?

What is the brake pad part number for the cantilever brake? In the 1990 catalog the ST1000 brakeset is listed as the 984. That pad part number is opc-25. I’ve found opc-25LK The ST400 lists the brakeset as just XCT. Dia-Compe seems to run their models by number not letters. If the xct takes...

    Highest touring model seen

What is the highest touring model that has been seen, owned or ridden? I myself own a 1990 ST400. I have not seen one in person higher in model number. In the gallery there is one 800 and one 900. I’ve never seen a 1000 (or higher) posted for sale on the internet in the short time that I’ve...

    Suntour shifter assembly

Anybody have a picture of the parts breakdown of shifter assembly? I seem to be short a rubber gasket/o-ring type seal. Are they important? edit: looking at my other bike and pictures of shifters on ebay it appears the rubber goes on the friction/fd shifter side

    Catch and Release

Anybody else have issues with releasing a bike back into the sea? I got a great deal on a nice 95 R300 last fall. New chain, seat, derailleur tune and axle lube is all that I did. Well, clean and polish too. The bike was too big for my wife and too small for me. So when a coworker mentioned...
