$1500AUD - 1989 Black Lightning SR500 - 58cm frame

This bike has a build date of Sep 1988 but is the 1989 model.
I bought this from the second owner and it still had all of it’s original parts attached. I then spent a few months performing a full restoration on it. Currently the bike rides and shifts like a charm. It is also more or less in fully original condition / spec, detailed information below.
The bike and its restoration was a labour of love and I will be sad to see it go. I am only selling as I ended up finding a 60cm CAD 3 Saeco which fits me better and also satisfies my unique/rare vintage Cannondale thirst. The Black Lightning has been sitting in my secure storage unit for a a year or so now.

Rims - Wolber GTX hard anodize 700c clincher (original, factory spec)
Hubs - Sansin CE-60, black 32 hole (original, factory spec)
Tyres - Michelin Dynamic Classic
Pedals - Black alloy generic
Crankset - Suntour Edge (NOS Suntour Roundtech 51 and new Sunrace 39). Please note the centre thread on this crankset that is used to remove it with a crank puller is not in great condition. If it was to be removed it may require a 3 jaw gear puller instead of the regular threaded crank puller. Crank is original to the bike, chainrings are not.
Chain - KMC X9 9sp
Freewheel - Suntour AP 7sp
Bottom bracket - Tange Seiki square taper (original, factory spec)
Front derailleur - Suntour Edge 4050, black, braze on (original, factory spec)
Rear derailleur - Suntour Edge Accushift 4050 7 speed, black (original, factory spec)
Handlebars - Nitto ‘Black Lightning’ bars (original, factory spec)
Stem - Nitto ‘Black Lightning’ stem (original, factory spec)
Headset - Tange-Seiki SE-II, black (original, factory spec)
Brakeset - Dia-Compe Edge BRS, black, aero lever (original, factory spec)
Seat - Vetta Mundialita racing (original, factory spec)
Seatpost - Strong NS-3, black (original, factory spec)
Fork - Tange chrome-moly steel (original, factory spec)
Brake cables - Lifeline Essential

Here is a list of work done during the restoration:
Hubs - fully dismantled, bearings replaced, re-greased and bearing pre-load reset. Silver ’Sansin’ stickers replaced with reproductions
Freewheel - replaced with NOS Suntour AP 7sp. This model is as per catalog spec but has a wider spread of cog sizes. Original freewheel also included in sale.
Bottom Bracket - fully dismantled, bearings replaced, re-greased and bearing pre-load reset.
Front Derailleur - fully dismantled, cleaned, re-lubricated and re-greased where applicable.
Rear Derailleur - fully dismantled, cleaned, re-lubricated and re-greased where applicable. Jockey wheels replaced with NOS Suntour parts. Shift cable outer replaced with NOS Suntour Accushift part.
Headset - fully dismantled, bearings replaced, re-greased and bearing pre-load reset. Crown races not removed from fork. Races also not removed from upper and lower head tube positions.
Brakeset - fully dismantled, cleaned, re-lubricated and re-greased where applicable. New pads installed (have had around 1000kms use)
Top tube cable guides - These were either missing or broken, all replaced with reproductions from Vintage Cannondale
Following is a list of spare/extra parts that will come with the bike:
- Original 13,14,16,18,20,23,26 Suntour AP 7sp freewheel - this unit had a slightly damaged centre thread where the top cone ring screws on although it still operates adequately. This item was also fully dismantled and cleaned. All bearings replaced.
- Used 13,14,15,17,19,21,24 Suntour AP 7sp freewheel
- Orignal 52/42 SR Ovaltech chainrings. These are original to the bike and as per the catalog. The large chainring has some damaged teeth that sometimes caused the chain to slip at higher speeds.
- Suntour Edge crankset with SR Ovaltech chainrings. This item is the exact model for this bike and is in great condition. Bought recently with the intention of replacing the currently installed one to maintain originality. Current crankset and chainrings operating perfectly.
- SR square taper bottom bracket. Used. Exact same model as the one currently installed on the bike. Bought as a spare if ever needed.
- Dia-Compe Edge BRS brakeset, black. Calipers only. Exact same model as the one currently installed on the bike. Bought as spares if ever needed.
- Front derailleur. Suntour Edge 4050, black, braze on. Exact same model as the one currently installed on the bike. Bought as a spare if ever needed.
- 2pcs Suntour Accushift gear outer housing NOS. The ‘correct’ housing to use for Accushift rear derailleurs. Unused and prepared for use on RD.
- Wolber GTX hard anodize 700c clincher 32H rim. Exact same model as the one currently installed on the bike. Bought as a spare if ever needed.
- Front wheel from exact same Black Lightning model. Sansin CE-60 32H hub and Wolber GTX rim.
- Pair of NOS Sansin quick release skewers. I don’t think these are long enough to fit either of the hubs but are included anyway.
- Park Tool bottom bracket locking wrench (HCW-5) and Park Tool crank + bottom bracket wrench (HCW-4). Tools needed to remove, re-install and tension the bottom bracket.
- Suntour rear derailleur jockey wheels. 1 set of two NOS, 1 set of two which are the originals taken off the RD during restoration.
