Different Components

Hi everyone,

Looking to get into a restoration of an 85 sr-900. The seller hasn't provided the best of photos or info. Based on what I've been provided I'm noticing that the seatpost and brakes are different than what is listed in the catalog. The components should have been all campy but I'm seeing speedy modolo for brakes, and SR Labrade for the seatpost. Both look era correct. I was curious if this was common at all. It's been a hassle to get photos and want to see my risk before wasting time driving all the way to see them.

Thank you!

It was certainly not unusual for Cannondale to supply bikes with parts different from catalog spec in the 1990s. I'm not sure how common it was in the early days but I'd guess less so. It won't be hard to find the NR post and calipers, but you will have to pay more for them than you will likely get out of the Laprade and Speedys. As you say, those parts are period correct and in my opinion fairly nice looking. Never used the Speedy calipers, but NR are not considered to be very powerful so the Modolos might be the better working of the two. If the other NR parts are in good shape and the bike is reasonably priced, I wouldn't let the discrepancy prevent me from buying it.

Also to remember. These bikes are pushing 20+ 30+ years. Multiple owners, bike shop repairs. :)
