    1991 SM1000 Project

A bit more lunchtime cleaning! First step was remove the Suntour BB and clean up related areas. It's worth noting the entire bike has white lithium grease. I am wondering if the BB has ever been removed and would guess it has not. Next was cleaning up the derailluers and wheelset. I had...

    1991 SM1000 Project

There was definitely previous saddle time but it was either not much or the owner was OCD about the condition of it. I'll post a few pics of the handgrips - they show minimal wear like the rest of the bike. After unloading an extra trombone (my other obsession), I have some parts money to...

    1991 SM1000 Project

Did some work over lunch today. Worked the frame with Mothers Aluminum and mag wheel polish followed by Mothers Cleaner Paste wax. Bike has minimal scratches and cleaned up very well. It's also interesting it was sold new in NW Ohio where I grew up and picked up in the Akron area. After...

    1991 SM1000 Project

Details were initially shared in this post and it seems more appropriate to document the work in the proper section. I got the bike home yesterday and it's on the stand for a good clean up and a few minor (reversible) upgrades. Other than the pavement friendly tires (that I gifted to the...

    1991 SM1000 Marketplace find

After comparing the size of the DFs to the Crossroads, I'm going with the DoubleFighters. I'm also considering some orange accents including a black and orange saddle and orange cable tips to pull the lettering on the tires, all of which is reversible of course.

    1991 SM1000 Marketplace find

I got this lovely home last night. I'll snap some pics as I do the cleanup process. It appears to be all original except for the tires which I gifted to the friend that picked it up for me last fall. I'm undecided on tires... Specialized Crossroads or Continental Doublefighters which look to...

'88 SM500 - the one that started the vintage spiral

I’m serious too. I’d remove the VO parts before a rehome… I have a beautiful SM1000 waiting that will fill the vintage Mtb space and if I’m honest I’m really a 700c guy. #haveboxcanship

    Part cleaning recommendations

For the crusty stuff I soak in the Ultrasonic cleaner and Dawn/water, brush with old toothbrush or whatever brush works, additional time in the UC, and rinse as needed.

    New guy from central Ohio

Hey all! I joined the forum about two years ago but never checked back in. I'm helping @IdahoBrett get some canti parts for his current Cannondale project. In our conversations he reminded me of this forum and encouraged me join the fun so here I am. A used 2018 Quick 1 disc was my gateway...

'88 SM500 - the one that started the vintage spiral

Long story short - I found this SM500 on FB in a Cannondale group. A soon to be bike friend in NE Ohio picked up the frame/fork in a bike shop 15 miles from my house and built it up for his personal ride. I mentioned if he ever decided to sell it to please let me know. Several months later he...

    1991 SM1000 Marketplace find

This Marketplace find is currently in the care of a friend in NE Ohio until I get it home. I'll get better pics at that time. All Suntour and in amazing condition. I will be swapping tires to something more appropriate - Specialized Crossroads are the likely choice but Continental...
