You may be able to find the two letter production date code under the cable guide. I can't see it in the photo. The bikes in the 1997 catalog don't appear to have the "handmade in USA" decal just behind the stem on the top tube. If the decals are original, that would suggest that it's a 1998...

I wouldn't think it should be too hard to find a disc hub for your bike. For example I have a SRAM X9 6 bolt disc hub here that's 135 mm and has the 8/9/10 freehub. You can put a 9 speed cassette on a Shimano 11 hub, just requires a thin spacer. I know that 6800 road hubs came with the...
