I bought my 1990 ST600 as "new old stock" in 1991. I almost immediately flew it across the country set off on a loaded tour from San Diego to Albuquerque, on which it performed fabulously. It also took me on three 1000-mile circuits around Utah & Colorado while I was leading bike trips. But by 1996 I was in graduate school and barely riding. The bike languished and got dusty for 10 years before I pulled it out to ride in a couple "sprint" triathlons. In 2011 it got a major "refit"...
A Spring local CL's find. In great hardly used shape. It was used by the first two owners for only a people trailer transporter and a Bob trailer hauler whom the bike was to small for his large stature.....my luck. All original but the tires and grips...and an upgrade to the pedals. The Cannondale's first ATB and its a treat cruising the neighborhood and the bike paths with it.....but I respect the earlier Mountain Bikers that could take this out in the wilderness, stronger constitution...

This is my 1985 Cannondale bike. It was given to me as a gift for helping a friend move. I just got it on the road 03/15/2012. Before that it had no tubes or tires. It has been in my garage for a couple years and I always wanted to fix it up, but I was unable to till recently. I am a novice to the cycling world. I use to ride a Peugeot bike on a daily biases about five years ago, however I moved to Florida and the Peugeot stayed behind. This Cannondale is by far the nicest bike I have...

2nd owner, purchased in 1989. Was built-up by the previous owner for more durability on long group rides. The upgrades by the previous owner included: Bullseye pulleys, Matrix Iso-C Aero rims laced with heavier gauge stainless spokes and Matrix hubs. Build date was in 11/87, and the exact color and component scheme is on pages 12-14 of the 1988 catalog. Very strong, light, and responsive. It had the following from the factory: full Shimano 105 group, including frame decals, brakes...
L.L. Bean touring bike, spec'd like an 87 ST400 with a cheaper drivetrain. They went with the Suntour Alpha 3000 front derailleur but an AG rear unit and Superbe friction shifters. Obviously a low end crankset. The bike was missing a wheel, so I installed the black 700c set I had on hand. There is no logo on the head tube.

This bike was purchased by me at a local dealer in 1993. I own no other bike. I will not upgrade to a new bike because this one is Made in USA, and there ain't much bikes now made in USA unless you want to pay like over $3k! I paid about $600 for this one. Minor upgrades were made such as seat, tires, handle-bar grips and new derailleur. Although the picture shows most original items, prior to some of the minor upgrades.
