Hi all -- I just wanted to say hello from Calgary and give thanks to Vintage Cannondale and the community for this resource. Besides the beautiful pictures of people's rides, I have already found great threads to explain some of the quirks of ownership (Coda brakes, Headshok).
I'm a fellow covid convert, picking up my first Cannondale earlier this year. Before that, I've coveted Cannondale bikes since I was young, but never could justify the expense. I moved on, and have mainly had Specialized and Norco bikes -- easily available to be found here. But when I found my 2002 F600 this year, it was love at first sight. The fit & finish, the colour, and overall condition were all near perfect (to me). I was thrilled to not only find it for sale, but to be able to scoop it up given the bike shortage this year and the subsequent run on used bikes. The seller, a bit remorse to give up his bike, had misspelled "Canondale" and so his online ad was buried and not found. I sold my 2015 Rockhopper and moved "down" to the F600 with money in my pocket. And the F600 is so much nicer, it feels like winning the bike lottery. So thats a little search tip for everyone looking for a bike online, target bad spellers for great deals!
My first idea was to resto-mod the F600 - try a 1x setup, convert to hydro -- but that's hard to do given how great the bike feels stock. Its certainly more of a city bike for me, so some semi-slicks may be my first upgrade. So with that, my stable had to grow, and now includes an 99/00 F1000SL (blown Headshok), and a crashed 02 Scalpel 800 -- for parts and projects. I even picked up some later model Cannondales too, a Trail and a Quick -- but neither had that beautiful finish to them and so I banished them to my relatives. Those are just run of the mill bikes, they have nothing on these vintage Cannondales. And I just want to say 2002 is hardly "vintage" to me. 2002 feels like just 5 years ago to me -- I still have the same car I bought in 2002, the same house, and the same wife. I guess I must be getting old.
Speaking of being old, once I figure out the best way to share pictures on the forum, I will try and document any small projects and upgrades along the way.
Thanks again to all for sharing!
