Chain line and other measurements on 1990 3.0 MTB frame

I found drawings for the cranks I am considering (SRAM Force 1) and they have 120 mm clearance between, while the chainstays are 115 mm wide in the area of the cranks. So it should work but it will be tight. I have to try it but with the current shortages in Europe I cannot get the cranks before...

Chain line and other measurements on 1990 3.0 MTB frame

I consider a 1x set up and the appropriate chainwheel could be between 38 and 44, depending in what rear cassette I will find. I have marked the current chainrings: mid is 36 and the largest is 48. But I think the q-factor might be the bigger issue, because there is not too much space for...

    Hi from Europe

Quite „exotic“ bars, from an aesthetic viewpoint! In my philosophy, it is not mandatory to use contemporary parts, but I have great respect for the efforts in sourcing matching parts from the correct era.

Chain line and other measurements on 1990 3.0 MTB frame

So I took some measurements on a 3.0 MTB frame (SM 400, size 20), built 6/1990 (great VIN decoder on this site!), what makes me believe these frames would actually work very well with a modern road/gravel group: Drop out space is 130 mm. BSA 68 mm bottom bracket. I measured the chainline with...

    Hi from Europe

That would have to be one of the „Mullet“ solutions where I combine road shifters with a high capacity derailleur and cassette and see what I do about the brakes. Right now I have a mixture of DiaCompe 987 front and Deore XT cantilevers rear. I just ordered a cheap ahead adapter and a cheap 6...

    Hi from Europe

And here is a pic of my SM 400. I was thinking of rebuilding this with a drop bar, but then I realised how long the reach on that frame is (size is 20 inch, really upper limit for me). Probably with a 50 mm stem replacing the installed 130 mm I could get a similar reach to what I have on my road...

    Hi from Europe

Thanks - I like the quad wrap actually. Will think about something.

    POLL: to vintage or not.

Didn't the bicycle division get acquired by SRAM?

    POLL: to vintage or not.

I don't search/buy vintage, but I enjoy the craftwork and the satisfaction of building/repairing/restoring my bikes for a hobby - regardless whether new or old. Having that said, I kept two older Cannondales (CAAD9 and SM400 of 1991), because these were great bikes and there is still some use...

    Hi from Europe

Thanks! Volvo team would be in blue? The SM400 is currently red and I like that color very much. I hope to post some pictures soon.

    Hi from Europe

Hi, I am Felix, happy owner of there Cannondales which I use in Switzerland and Germany: 1. Cannondale Slate Force CX1 from 2017. Wonderfully versatile, big fun. 2. Cannondale CAAD9 from 2009. See my project in the other thread. Most beautiful cover combo. 3. Cannondale SM400 from 1991. Red...

    CODA Crank Decals?

I am in the same problem. I think it boils down to finding a proper high-res image, convert to a vector graphic and print onto a water slide foil and stick to the crank. If you have a good laser printer, you could do it yourself, I am sure. And there are various versions: some have a copyright...

    CAAD9 Restomod

And here are pictures of the fork. Seems to be from a Cannondale SIX, not sure about the year though. I was surprised to find this pattern, what led me to decide to use clear coat primer and finish with some decals in between.

    CAAD9 Restomod

I bought this beautiful CAAD9 Ultegra SL in 2009 in Switzerland and have ridden it roughly 3000 mls in Switzerland, Germany and Belgium on training rides and triathlon competitions. Everything is original, even the bar tape (but not the tires...). I am using other, more modern bikes in meantime...
