Where did you ride your Cannondale today?

After a couple of falls on the ice riding my M800 I considered buying studded tires but got scared off by the prices. I have pretty much given up riding when it's below freezing.

Where did you ride your Cannondale today?

It looks about the same here though the ground is not fully frozen and the snow is slowly melting. We're supposed to get 6-8" Monday night into Tuesday with 40 mph winds and much colder temps, so it will be a mess. Just about to head out and get enough firewood inside to last a week or so in...

    Headshok, elastomer completely perished

Thanks. I've been going to search for alternate sources but haven't gotten around to it.

    Headshok, elastomer completely perished

What is the price for what you found? There may be some options here but they aren't exactly inexpensive: https://www.suspensionforkparts.net/eshop/cannondale/cannondale-headshok-dd25.html

You might try filing the outer layer of hard pad material down. May or may not be a layer with more grip underneath. Someone at Cane Creek may be able to advise you on new pad choices. Cane Creek is DiaCompe's high end brand.

    Headshok, elastomer completely perished

The elastomer in the XS800 that I have apart was completely dissolved into bits as well. Do you have a source for new ones?

I didn't recall that those shifters had two index positions but I was thinking the gold Sprint stuff was 6 speed. I don't know if I have a 7 speed Winner Pro freewheel here, guessing not. I'm wondering if all the 7 speed freewheels and cassettes were the same spacing barring Microdrive, which...

Noticed something interesting about Cannondale Road/race frames over the last 20+ years

Will your CAAD9 not accept 28 mm tires? I thought most Cannondale road bikes would. I know I've run 28s on CAAD3-4 frames.

Any chance you have the cable attached in slightly the wrong place? That can affect how far the derailleur moves with each click. Other than that, is it possible the freewheel has been changed? SunTour made a narrow 6 speed freewheel and a "normal" one. Guessing it came with a normal one...

Let me know all the parts in the drivetrain. You might have something that's not compatible with the rest.

From the photo it does appear that your chain is a bit short. Shouldn't affect shifting except in large ring and larger cogs combos but doesn't look ideal. People describe down vs. up shifting differently. To me, down shifting is always going to a lower gear ratio, whether on crank or cogs...

AC would be a good plan for me too but mainly to reduce the humidity. Just one small window in the shed but I guess I could install a bigger one. I didn't know they made a window AC/heater combo.

I moved a 10' x 16' building from a neighbor's farm to my place winter of 2022. From the looks of it the original use was storage for oats or small grain. Got it moved to where it's going to stay last summer. Just started working on it. Plan is to insulate, install good lights, and a small...

Noticed something interesting about Cannondale Road/race frames over the last 20+ years

Interesting that you found the CAAD7 to be lacking in bottom bracket stiffness. I have a couple of 7s here but I've never built one up. With the 50 mm diameter of the down tube I would have expected it the be very stiff at the BB. Were you pedaling at a low cadence when you rode the CAAD7?

Interesting. You're limited to CAAD4 and older with a quill stem. I'm with you on the level top tube, though I have a few bikes with sloping. I don't mind threadless stems though. Here's the first new Cannondale I owned, a 1999 R4000 purchased as a frameset and built with Campagnolo Daytona...

    Crazy graphics

Nice bit of history that I had never heard of. I do remember seeing that font on the down tube but didn't recall the King James on the top tube. Here's a link to the paceline thread: https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=27521&highlight=king+james

Noticed something interesting about Cannondale Road/race frames over the last 20+ years

My feeling with no data to support it is that there is very little performance advantage from a current road frame compared to one from 15-20 years ago. The weight of the frames may be a bit lower now but the difference wouldn't affect the average rider to any degree. Back when I was racing...

I still "need" to find a Saeco bike in my size. 7700 is nice stuff, the only real knock on it is that the finish doesn't hold up very well. I have a 7703 group on a steel Serotta. The 7703 triple crank is really nice and light.

You are taller than I but I rider higher seat height than most folks who are even a couple of inches taller. I'd think you would like a larger frame better and would probably prefer the 63 cm frame.

    VERY early Cannondale/ ST500

I think you have it right. It's dirt cheap. The Superbe Tech rear derailleur can bring close to the asking price if it's nice.
