If you have the external cup British threaded bottom bracket it should work. The only issue I can think of is if the small ring is a much different size than the original 42 there might be a chainstay clearance issue. Hard to know for sure until you try it.

It's an older 2.8 or 3.0 frame with late 90s decals. The CAAD designations came about after the 2.8/3.0 frames.

My 1992 R1000 is 1". I was thinking your stem might work for SirRidealot with a quill adapter. The Control Tech stem you listed is for a 1 1/8" fork, the quill OD is 1". I've never heard of anyone using a shim with a quill stem but it might be possible.
