    Thanks for that.

    Cadre inconnu ROAD CAAD3

It's going to be tough to pin down a specific model, especially for a European frame. The quadwrap down tube decals were not used on many bikes prior to the 2000 model year except team frames and time trial frames. The top end USA CAAD3 model in 2000 was the R600 which was a Shimano 105...

For Sale Cannondale F1000 Polished AL (medium) - 1996 CAAD3

Very cool bike. I don't remember those Onza brakes but my 1995 M900 came with Onza pedals. Can you post a picture of the bottom bracket? Are the chainrings milled separately or all in one piece? I've never seen that crank or bottom bracket - they were only standard on three models in 1996...

    Spin-off SM400 (1990)

You certainly made it look nice. I would keep a close watch on that chain stay for cracking. What are you planning for the build?

    Touring frame: inches or cm

I have a bunch of new pannier style bags from a Dutch company called NewLooxs. They are intended more for commuters than long distance touring. Lots of weird colors and patterns (paisley, flowers, etc.). Our solution for that has been to spray paint them. I can sell you some for much less...

    1990 SM400

I think I would use all the Saeco period decals except the Alcalyte decal.

    Unknown SR500

Superbe Pro was the top of the SunTour line. Looks like you have a Sprint rear derailleur which was 2nd best road group. There were numerous versions of the chainrings and crank arms but most were silver. I have an all black Superbe Pro crank on my Black Lightning...

    Catch and Release

I recently sold the orange XR800 for the same reason. I loved the bike but it was too small for me and an acquaintance wanted a nice bike to give his son for Christmas. So what do I do but buy a same size and color XS800 to replace it......

    Catch and Release

Sometimes it's good not to see them again. Not everyone takes care of their bikes.

    SRAM vs. Shimano

I can't remember for sure but I think you can move two or three cogs when shifting to a larger cog in the rear. When shifting to smaller cogs you have to tap once for each cog.

    1988 Black Lightning

I've had a gold KMC chain sitting here for years with the intention of putting it on my black/gold custom David Kirk. Just another thing I've put off doing. I should order a gold 8 speed chain for the '87 Black Lightning. The front hub in the first photo is a Zipp with carbon center tube and...

    SRAM vs. Shimano

I have used 10 speed SRAM on a few bikes. The main difference for me is the SRAM double tap shifter. There is a single shift paddle that controls derailleur movement in both directions. A light tap shifts to the next smaller cog, a stronger push shifts to a larger cog. I haven't used any of...

Where did you ride your Cannondale today?

Long way between STL and SF. Times have changed. USPS failed to deliver mail here for almost a full week even though I was able to make it to town every day but one in that period.

    Maisto | 1:12 | Year 2000 | Cannondale Multisport | Scale Model

I would never have guessed that it existed. I would have thought a Saeco or Volvo team bike would have been more likely.

    Headshok, elastomer completely perished

I kike you approach to the problem. When I worked in motor racing we often changed "bump rubbers" and would saw them shorter when that seemed to be advantageous for the conditions. The race car elastomers were typically conical for about half of their compressible height. I don't remember...

    1988 Black Lightning

It's hard to evaluate all the differences between 6-7-8-9 speed chains. Overall widths vary, as do plate shapes. Some are made to run in only one direction. I know why I went to 9 speed chains on everything below 10 speed bikes - I was able to buy 25 or 30 FSA chains for about $4 each. With...

    Finding the Right Red

I have a Testors color that I thought looks close but it's a metallic. Interesting that all the metallic has settled to the bottom and for touch ups the metallic might not show up. I'll try to remember to post it.

    Finding the Right Red

It's too bad Velocals closed down. They had scans of quite a few models.

    Finding the Right Red

One nice thing about the red is it's relatively easy to duplicate, unlike some of the other paint schemes of that era.

Brian has a link to a 2nd list of paint colors, but the last time I downloaded it, it was a duplicate of the 1st. https://vintagecannondale.com/PDF/Cannondalepaintformulas2.pdf
