Looks like an early touring frame. I don't know of any that came with a TA crank, brake levers and rear derailleur are recent replacements. Check the serial number on the bottom bracket shell below the crank and see if it begins with AA, BB, or CC.

That R900 is a beauty. I never would have guessed that there was a shim in the Shimano bearings, but that's great to know in case I trip over a Coda road crank somewhere.

It looks like the only production road bike to use the Coda bottom bracket may have been the 1995 SR2000. The road version was designated 900R. There is a picture in the 1998 catalog of Ivan Gotti riding with a Coda crank in the 1997 Giro, but the 1998 Team Replica R4000 came with a DA crank...

I might go the opposite direction and replace the rings now with black FSAs or whatever you can find for a good price. I may have a new outer ring in the spares box, but perhaps not the inner.

Bikewagon had a lot of Headshok parts on ebay but perhaps just the races and not the bearings. I wonder if you couldn't find the same needles in a round needle bearing. Might tax the patience of the counter guy at the bearing shop to find them... You should check with Mendoncyclesmith and see...

I don't have any mountain bikes of this vintage, but the road bikes in that era generally have the size in cm stamped in the BB shell. Guessing that the MD in your frame code is the size. If anyone has anexample of a SM, LG, etc. frame code on a mountain frame it would be nice to see.

Believe that's a medium. Measure the wheelbase with someone holding the fork straight. MD wheelbase was 41.1", LG was 42.1".

From what I can see, it does look like a 1999 frame but the 1999 frames in the catalog had both disc and canti mounts - as you mentioned. There were disc specific frames in 2000 but the forks were Fatty DL. My guess is that your frame is a transitional example that was sold as a 1999 model but...

I was wondering if the RaceFace parts were on it from new. Perhaps built from a frameset as Ravens normally had a Coda crank.
