    1995 M900

1995 M900 Local to me Craigslist find. I remember it being listed last fall. Apparently it didn’t sell. Seller has it listed as a 19 inch. But for 95 there isn’t a 19 inch frame. Looks to be modded as it has a Rockshox fork vs Pepperoni. Also a Sugino crank and thumb shifters vs gripshift...

    Part cleaning recommendations

I use mineral spirits. I’ve seen no adverse effects to paint, anodizing or chrome. I buy it in 1 gallon cans at Lowe’s or Home Depot. It works great.

Thanks! My cheapest Cannondale. Well, the initial purchase. It ended up being my favorite to ride.

    Fresh Find: Gold

Reminds me of a wagon I had as a kid. The paint was in rough shape and it was slightly rusty. A bunch of us kids in the neighborhood got into racing down a big hill with wagons. All manner of paint jobs, some with decals were the order of the day. My Dad showed me how to rattle can paint. My...

Wow! Nice find! Like @JohnnyD all I find around me are the rough around the edges kind. With a couple of exceptions that are always too small for me.

    Creaky BB-5500

This mornings 40 mile ride started with the all too familiar creak. Somewhere between mile 8 & 10 the creak faded away. And did not return for the other 30ish miles. It’s 12 hours since the ride and I’m much too tired to care why.

    2007 Caad9 3

I doubt I could talk my Mrs. into another road trip for a bicycle. I had better come up with some scheme that makes the bike purchase seem like a side thing.

    Creaky BB-5500

I borrowed an 8mm allen socket from a coworker today. As soon I got home from work I used a proper torque wrench. Ummm. Yah. I wasn’t close with just an allen wrench. My concern for a fragile bike part was unwarranted. I could’ve gone 5 white knuckles and wouldn’t have gotten it to 25 ft. Lbs...

    2007 Caad9 3

I really like this one and it’s my size. It’s been listed for a while at $350. Good/bad that it’s a 7 hour drive away in Missoula. 07 CAAD9

    Creaky BB-5500

Creak came back on yesterday’s ride. Today is a rest/maintenance day. Checking the fixing bolts with an allen wrench; the non-drive side bolt had movement while tightening. I will be buying a 8mm allen socket and torquing to 25-50nm. I’m contemplating a dab of blue locktite.

Where did you ride your Cannondale today?

No pictures as I was on a roll and didn’t feel like stopping long enough. I’ve got 18 stop signs on a 16 mile ride to contend with as it is. But I did manage just over 17 mph average speed. And on another note; I finally met Eddy on today’s ride. It is true. He’s a real sunofa….

    Creaky BB-5500

Tightening the “fixing bolts” fixed the creak! It bugs me to no end to not have used a torque wrench. I went with 2 white knuckles. Hopefully the over 3 decades of fixing stuff that flies 6 miles up has calibrated my knuckles.

    Creaky BB-5500

After making the post I checked the fixing bolts on the crank arms. They weren’t loose but I did get movement. I gave them a simulated torque, applicable to the specified torque, using just an allen wrench. Unfortunately I don’t own metric allen sockets, so I can’t check with a torque wrench. I...

    Creaky BB-5500

A few months ago I installed a new Shimano 105 BB-5500. On my ‘01 R400. I’ve got about 350 miles (563km’s) on it. For the last 100 miles (160 km’s) it has begun to creak. Only under load. No noise in a bike stand. Nothing seems loose. It seems to be getting worse with each ride (Could be it is...

I hate it when that happens…

It's like fasteners (screws) for an access panel on a wing. The panel is for aerodynamics. Not for holding the wing to the fuselage. Those little screws don't need to be torqued to 5 white knuckles!

I hate it when that happens…

I bought a replacement from cannondale experts for $20.

    1996 R600

I do see the frame size sticker on the seat tube in the picture, now that you mention it. But the picture quality isn’t good enough to zoom in to read it fully. Probably moot. I’m the only person in my family that is passionate about bikes.

    Is this OCD?

I do the final tightening for the stem while straddling the frame. Otherwise it’ll end up “off” as well if I try doing it in the stand.
