I do have a short sleeve “jersey” with cape that I’ve worn for the last 5 Halloween’s.
I should. I really should. Just for the shock value. And for added craziness when I pass people in my neighborhood I could shout “Have you seen Robin!?!” ;)
I got this bike last year and have done some upgrades. Such as 105 derailleurs and calipers. Kool Stop pads, Michelin Power Cup tires and started using the Ultegra pedals that came with the bike recently.
Installed Kool Stop pads on the R400. At the bottom of a hill today I was at 30 mph (48.3 kph) and just beyond that is a 15 mph corner. That I take at 20 mph.
Wow! Impressive! I’m going to have to adjust my brake grip. My normal squeeze lifted me off the saddle.
My 01 R400 has its original Cannondale Performance wheelset. I expect to ramp up my mileage over the next 12 months. The crazy idea that I currently have is to train for a stage race for next summer. It’s the training bike.
My 04 R500 has its original CXP23 wheelset. The bike is mint. Doubling...
Vintage bikes are great. Vintage bike brake pads not so much.
On one of my rides I have a descent at up to 35 mph (56kph). I got to thinking one day that just maybe 20+ year old brake pads aren’t a good idea.
I upgraded my R500 with Kool Stop pads. I’ve got another set on the way for my R400...
The cost of a truing stand has also kept me from buying one @letsbike
Having a set of wheels built would probably be a better idea now that you mention it. Paying $200 for a set of used, cosmetically good looking, but unknown mileage/use is a gamble. A gamble on a fast descent could be deadly...
I’ve been thinking about getting a set. I believe I’ve read the SL was above the Elite in the hierarchy.
Are there different generations? Were there bad years?
Looking at pictures it looks like a special nipple wrench would be needed.
I don’t know the weight of my current wheels so I don’t...
Saddle height/angle still needs adjustment. Brakes need fine tuning.
I was going to have to leave for work as I was finishing up for the day. I wrapped one side of the bars and ran the rear brake cable in the final 20 minutes. I had just enough braking to go up and back on my street while...
I don’t know anything about threadless adaptors. But I visited the site via your link. I think it looks very good on their sample bike. Doesn’t look out of place. Kind of OEM.
If it’s a quality product and it works for you, I say go for it. Especially if it keeps you on your Cannondale.
Shimano Ultegra pedals. They were on the bike when I bought it but removed them as soon as I brought the bike home. Riding a bike is like riding a bike? Not really. There are hundreds of small skills that just weren’t there anymore. Like standing to pedal up an incline. Up until a month ago I...
I thought about it some more. The reason the idea of racing has crept into my thinking is due to my past. For 20+ years I ran. Not once was it for general fitness or weight loss. I always “trained” for racing.
So now that my skill and fitness level are better than 6 months ago I’m thinking of a...
At first glance $80k strikes me as a lot of money. And a lot of bikes. Then I realize that I’m thinking my level of bikes. It would take a warehouse full to reach $80k. I’d bet (pun intended) that Vegas collector has some real nice bikes.
I watched a couple videos made during the Baker city race. Their average pace on the flats is my finish line speed in front of my house. And their speed on a big descent without technical corners approaches 60 mph (97 kph). I'm likely 12 months plus away from being that competent.
