I'd think that you would want the Force 40 pivots. To do without them you would probably have to run V brakes. I don't think Cannondale used them prior to 1997.

All you really need is the letter on the bar code for the year. Range for a CAAD9 would be S (2007) to V (2010) It's a sticker and they sometimes get removed. Frame looks authentic to me. Looking closer at the photos I think it is a CAAD9 as it has the increased diameter top tube at the head...

Do you have the original parts? What specifically is wrong? My guess is that the brakes were made for Cannondale by another company but I have no idea who. Perhaps you can figure it out by comparing what you have to other brakes from the same era. The only disc brake bike I have is from...

I thought that the paint looked pretty original but haven't gone back and compared the photos to what's in the catalog. Regardless I would still lean towards touching it up. There really isn't much point in a pristine restoration of a bike that's going to get ridden.

I would guess a team bike, but not one that I know anything about. Check the letter on the bar code sticker to at least be sure that it's in the model year range of the CAAD9. I paid $400+ for the last CAAD9 frameset I purchased, a pristine 2010 - last of the USA made frames.

No sign of paint in either of the 3.0 frames I checked. I'm sure both have the original paint.

As I remember, Campagnolo was first with 9 speed in 1997 but only road bike groups. Shimano was close behind with 9 speed road groups in 1998 but the MTB groups were still 8 speed.

I'm guessing that those decals may be hard to find. Any chance of cleaning up the trouble spots and touching up the paint?

I wondered about the fork as you said it was a bare frame. Did you have one on hand or did it come with the frame? Did you see the recent post from a UK member who is reproducing the boots?
